The Red and Green Lakes are two small lakes in the immediate vicinity of the Bear Lake, having the approximate same age as the most famous Lake of Sovata. The bottom of the lakes is covered with thick sludge, rich in iron and calcium sulfate. The Red Lake was named after the Artemia Salina crabs. Because of the rich Artemia Salina population, the lake’s water is red. The Red Lake and the Green Lake are favored by the tourists who like mud (slurry) baths.
