The Vlad Dracul house is the oldest civilian building in the Fortress. The name of the house comes from Vlad II, known as Vlad Dracul (English: Vlad the Dragon), voivode of Wallachia, Knight of the Order of the Dragon, who came to Sighisoara in order to conquer the throne of Wallachia. Legend has it that in 1431 his son, later known as Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia or Vlad the Impaler (Romanian: Vlad Țepeș), was born in this house in (thus the name The House of Dracula). Vlad the Impaler was a fearless ruler, who was known as the cruel torturer: his practice of impaling his enemies and leaving their bodies in the open as an example for anyone who thought of going against him is part of his historical reputation. The Vlad Dracul House is located in the Citadel Square. The former public building nowadays is a medieval style restaurant.Visit Site
