The Students' Stairway has 172 steps, which is covered by a rooftop made out of wood. It was built in 1642, and it served as a shortcut to the school next to the Castle Church. Every student took those stairs each morning on their way to school, and this is why they named it the Students' Stairway. The stairway is the most popular attraction of the Medieval Fortress, leading from the city centre up to the Church on the Hill. According to the legend, when the fortress was under siege, the covered stairway protected the children or the christians going to church.
